Career Day on Tuesday

Spring Career Day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the Student Recreation Center. The event could not be held in its usual location because of construction work in the Overman Student Center.
Two shuttles will run continuously throughout the day to take students to and from the fair. Shuttle stops will be at Cleveland Plaza by the Student Center, the Brown parking lot, the Kansas Technology Center and the Student Recreation Center.
About 100 companies and organizations are scheduled to have a presence at the career fair. Students may access links to the companies’ web pages by going to http://www.pittstate.edu/office/careers/events/spring-career-day.dot or by going to the Career Services’ web page.

Blood drive

A blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, in the Weede Gymnasium. No appointment is necessary and more than 50 prizes will be given to donors at random.

Relationship contest

Students for Violence Prevention is holding a Healthy Relationships Contest from now until 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10. There are three categories: couples, friends and co-workers. At least one person in each category must be a Pitt State student or employee. Entries may be picked up near the decorated Valentine boxes in the Student Recreation Center, KTC, Psychology and Counseling Office and the Information Desk in the student center.
The winners will be announced and contacted by Thursday, Feb. 12, and will receive dinner and a movie for two.

Volunteers needed

The Gorilla Assistance Food Pantry (GAP) is now searching for volunteers to help with office hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.
Organizations may also volunteer as a group.

Rec Center limited hours

The annual Spring Career Day will be Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Student Recreation Center (SRC). In light of this, basketball courts A & B will be closed Monday, Feb. 9. The SRC will be open 6-8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, and will close at 8 a.m. for Spring Career Day. Event breakdown is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will dictate when the basketball courts will reopen.

Laura Bush ticket sales

General admission tickets for former first lady Laura Bush will be on sale at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23. A limited number of tickets will be available Thursday, Feb. 19, for PSU students with valid ID. Tickets will be $35 for general admission, $30 for seniors, children and PSU faculty and staff. Students with a valid ID will be able to purchase tickets for $5, limit one ticket per ID.

Dessert contest registration

Campus Activities Center is now accepting registration forms for the annual Apple Day Dessert Contest on Wednesday, March 4. Winners will be awarded in two categories: Pies and Other Desserts. The top three entries in each category will receive PSU gift baskets.
Registration forms are due by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, to the CAC office located in Hartman Hall, room 203.

Multimedia presentation slated

Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, former poet laureate of Kansas, and Stephen Locke, photographer, will present their multimedia presentation “Chasing Weather” as part of the PSU Distinguished Visiting Writers Series at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5.
The presentation will draw from Mirriam-Goldberg and Locke’s book “Chasing Weather: Tornadoes, Tempests, and Thunderous Skies in Word & Image.”

Student nominations due

Nomination forms for the 26th Annual Student Employee of the Year are due by Friday, Feb. 13. Forms and guidelines can be found on the Pitt State website.
Staff are encouraged to nominate any outstanding student employees.

International Gathering: Paraguay

The semester’s annual International Gatherings will continue at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the lower level of Grubbs Hall, with Paraguay taking the stage.
The event will feature native Paraguayan foods and a presentation by international students from Paraguay about their home country.

Spring Convocation video

Steve Scott, university president, answered remaining questions left over from Spring Convocation on Thursday, Jan. 29. His responses may be viewed on the university’s YouTube Channel or by logging onto http://bit.ly/qDo0kLc.

Nominated to NCAA DII positions

Steve Scott, university president, and Deron Washington, safety for PSU, were selected to join the NCAA DII President’s Council and Management Council. Washington was one of two Gorillas to be selected for the Management Council and both are the first students to serve on the council’s 17-year history.
Scott was selected as vice chair for the President’s Council and will also serve as chair for the 16-member DII Planning and Finance Committee.
